Getting back to Adventuring
When you live an active lifestyle and an injury slows you down physically, it can really impact you mentally as well. That’s Mimi’s story to be shared. Mimi and her husband are both very active. Between raising three boys who all participated in sports and living active lives themselves with yoga, hiking, biking, ATV riding, and so forth — Mimi was always on the move. So when she wasn’t able to live her best life physically, it took a toll on her overall well being.
Mimi loves doing yoga and a few years ago she suffered a shoulder injury from repeated use and a little bit of age wearing on her. She didn’t take care of it immediately and the symptoms and pain lingered. But, she kept at it until she injured it again a second time and knew she had to get some help.
She started with physical therapy and was seeing some improvement. After getting together with a dear friend and Adjust NRV client, Kelly Beeken, during the holiday season, she knew she should reach out and connect with Dr. Brooke. Mimi was so thankful for her friend Kelly’s recommendation to come see our team at Adjust NRV.
Mimi started her story with sharing that “the Adjust NRV office is like going through Chic-fil-a; they just got it going on!” You know that made us chuckle!
During the initial visit, when Tara showed her around our office and explained how everything worked, she also had an in-depth conversation with Dr. Brooke about her injury and her time at physical therapy. They discussed how the two approaches could work together to get her feeling better. Mimi describes it as “overall fantastic experience.” Within a few weeks, her shoulder was feeling much better and we had her back to enjoying all the activities she loved best until…
Mimi was going about her everyday awesome life when she simply tripped over a dog gate. It seemed innocent and innocuous enough, until she went for a hike a few days later. Her knee completely gave out! She was in such pain she couldn’t complete the hike and had to have a piggy-back ride off the trail! Low and behold, her friend Kelly comes around again and says “Go back to Dr. Brooke! He can help you with your knee as well!” After 2 visits, Dr. Brooke had her back to hiking trails again!
Now 3 of her 5 family members are clients at Adjust NRV! Her husband came to us with a hip injury and her son after some aches and pains from playing golf. Mimi said that if it hadn’t been for the guidance and support from Dr. Brooke, she and her husband wouldn’t be able to take their youngest son hiking out west this fall for his graduation trip. She shared, “If you would have asked us both back in December, we would have told you the trip was off due to our current injuries. But now that we’ve both been working with Dr. Brooke and our physical therapist, Brenda Miller, the trip is on as originally planned!”
Mimi is so grateful for her experience at Adjust NRV and always welcomes the opportunity to share her and her husband's story! She believes she is now educated and wise enough to listen to her body, know what to do and what not to do, and always check in with Dr. Brooke for routine maintenance. We love that she takes a comprehensive approach and embraces the “and” of chiropractic care and physical therapy. Mimi loves how our mindset at Adjust NRV and her mindset align – get better and get back to it!
