Erin’s Story

Erin grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia.  She moved away for a period of time but later decided to move back home.  She and her partner have two children growing up in the New River Valley as well.  Erin currently works at Virginia Tech and teaches yoga classes at In Balance Yoga.  She decided to do her yoga training in 2020 and has been teaching for the last two years.  She loves this time connecting with others in the yoga studio, helping them to feel at home, and supporting them wherever they may be in their yoga journey.

Erin has always been active by walking, cycling, running, doing yoga, and high intensity interval training workouts.  At the age of 46, she has recently spent a bit more time determining what type of movement is realistically best to preserve and maintain her overall physical and mental health to the best of her ability.

While teaching yoga, Erin says she spent more time focused on the teaching aspect and not as much time on herself and her own practice.  This led to an injury that would come and go in the lower back and ramp up most when biking or running.  She tried multiple exercises to recover the glutes and core and support the low back, but after a few days of feeling some relief, the injury continued to manifest. Erin was then recommended to see Dr. Brooke at Adjust NRV by some of her local, physically active friends.

From her initial evaluation, Erin has appreciated being involved in her care plan at Adjust NRV.  Dr. Brooke noticed some unevenness with her practice and a few key moves missing from her daily routines.  She now feels empowered to know what to do and what NOT to do so she can adequately recover from her injury and get back to doing the activities she loves most.  Erin takes a very holistic approach with her care plan by including her primary care physician, and chiropractor.  She believes each of these individuals are able to meet her where she is, listens to her concerns, and provides individualized care rather than a one size fits all approach.  This also helps Erin to be more mindful of meeting her own and her yoga clients' challenges with love of the body and what it can do rather than criticism and what it can’t.

In terms of the fine folks at Adjust NRV, Erin wanted to share how much she loves the combination of professionalism and comfort within the office space.  Life is busy for so many.  She said that while she is greeted kindly and checked in quickly,  she is also respected for her time and needs and not rushed or forgotten. She loves the vibe the office brings and the feeling that everyone is valued and important while they are visiting there.
