Judy’s Story

Each patient comes to us with a story and with unique goals. For Judy, a former teacher, stage four cancer survivor, and a wife and mother, she has a lot of motivation to live her life to the fullest. At 79 years young, she found herself facing debilitating back pain that was increasingly limiting her ability to embrace life with the vibrancy she craved. Judy explained:

At my age, I am used to aches and pains coming and going in various body parts on random days and weeks.  I became concerned, however, when my lower right back started “catching” more and more frequently when I arose from sitting.  Hard chair, medium chair, soft chair — my back seemed to find no favorite place for me to sit, and even a specially purchased cushion advertised to help folks like me only sometimes alleviated that lower back pain.  Last August, I turned a corner for the worse: the lower back pain was constant, not occasional.

Judy then recalled seeking out a variety of solutions but none were successful. From compression belts and special exercises to massages and a regime of Aspercreme and Lidocaine. The end result was that Judy’s pain persisted and her quality of life was impacted. However, a conversation with a friend helped lead her in a healing direction. She shared:

By late December, I was so tired of being in pain that I openly complained to a friend, Joyce, who casually replied that I should get an appointment with her chiropractor, Dr. Logan Brooke, who had helped her before with back pain. That casual statement was like a slap upside my head—not once had I thought of going to a chiropractor during my many-faceted search to remedy my constant back pain.

We are so glad that Judy gave us a call! We made sure to quickly get her an appointment and loved welcoming her to our office for her initial visit. She said:

When I explained to Dr. Brooke how, when, and how much my lower back hurt, he listened intently. He then explained the juxtaposition of my spine and hip and just why my back hurt constantly. I was then directed to a table that tilted me just so, and he adjusted my spine using a combination of quick, painless movements of his hand and the table.  As I left his office, my back still hurt— but not nearly as much as it did when I arrived earlier. My lower back continued to ache just a bit the rest of that day, but when I awakened the following morning, miraculously, it did not hurt at all! None! I was amazingly pain-free for this first day since August!

Judy then continued to work with Dr. Brooke, multiple times a week initially but tapering off as she improved. Now, we get to see her monthly or as she needs the support. Judy summarized it by saying, “I am definitely one happy, pain-free client!”

We are so grateful that we got to have a role in helping Judy live her very best life! “Today, my life is both normal and extremely enjoyable,” she said. As Judy pursues her goals of remaining mobile and pain-free we will be right there with her, cheering her on and supporting her along her journey.
